Dehumidifier Diaries: Amanda

Moisture in the home is easy to miss, until it starts causing problems. Slower drying times. A musty smell that won’t go away. Towels that never feel properly fresh. Or damp air that makes a room feel “heavy”. 

For our new video campaign, we sat down with Amanda to talk through how she uses a dehumidifier in real life. What started as a renovation helper quickly became one of her most-used home tools, especially with kids, where laundry and cleaning never really stop. 

Here’s Amanda’s routine, in plain English, plus the Pro Breeze products she uses to make it all feel simpler. 

Renovations and decorating: Dry paint, plaster and wallpaper faster

Amanda first got a dehumidifier when she was renovating her house. She found it helped speed up the drying process after messy, moisture-heavy jobs, like plastering and painting. 

More recently, she used it again when decorating her child’s room. It helped the wallpaper dry quickly so the room could be finished within a day. 

Why a dehumidifier helps here: When you paint, plaster or wallpaper, there’s a lot of moisture in the air. A dehumidifier removes that excess moisture, which can help surfaces dry faster and the room feel more comfortable while you work. 

After the renovation, Amanda realised something else: Her dehumidifier was perfect for drying laundry indoors. It also presented a great alternative to a tumble dryer, which she found often damaged some of her more delicate and prized possessions.

She uses it to: 

• Dry clothes much faster 
• Help prevent that damp, “laundry smell” 
• Dry expensive or delicate items she doesn’t want to risk in the tumble dryer 

Why a dehumidifier helps with laundry: Wet clothes release moisture into the room as they dry. If that moisture has nowhere to go, drying takes longer and the room can start to feel damp. A dehumidifier removes that moisture from the air, so laundry can dry more efficiently. 

Cleaning sofas and rugs: Speed up drying and avoid damp smells

This is one of Amanda’s favourite uses, because it fits real family life. 

She has kids, so she deep cleans her sofas and rugs fairly often. The problem with cleaning fabric is that it can stay damp for a long time, which is when it can start to smell unpleasant. 

Amanda runs her dehumidifier while the sofa or rug dries because it: 

• Speeds up drying after cleaning 
• Helps stop fabrics from smelling “damp” 
• Makes the whole clean-up job feel quicker and easier 

Why a dehumidifier helps after cleaning: After you wash a rug or sofa, the moisture has to leave the fabric. A dehumidifier helps by pulling moisture out of the air, which supports faster drying and a fresher-feeling room.
