- Room Size: Measure your space. Smaller units are suitable for bedrooms or bathrooms (107-215 sq ft or 10-20 m2), while larger units are better for basements or living areas (215-322 sq ft or 20-40 m2). Keep your dehumidifier away from water (bath, shower, etc.) to prevent damage to electronic components.
- Humidity Level: Use a hygrometer to accurately measure your room's humidity and choose the appropriate dehumidifier based on these conditions. No dehumidifier is needed for low humidity (below 40%), where you might notice dry skin, static electricity, or creaking wooden furniture. Mid-level humidity (40%-60%) might cause slight condensation on windows, mild musty odours, or minor damp spots, requiring a dehumidifier with moderate extraction. For high humidity (above 60%), where you see frequent condensation, peeling paint, swollen wood, or mould growth, a high-extraction dehumidifier is necessary to manage moisture effectively and protect your home.
- Temperature: In cold environments (below 15°C/59°F), desiccant dehumidifiers are more effective because they don’t rely on temperature differences to remove moisture, making them ideal for basements, garages, and unheated rooms. In contrast, compressor models are more efficient in warmer conditions (above 20°C/68°F), as they use the temperature difference to condense moisture, making them suitable for living rooms, bedrooms, and other heated areas of your home.
- Features: Look for features like continuous drainage options to avoid frequent emptying, specific modes for drying laundry, or smart app features for ease of control.
- Energy Efficiency: All Pro Breeze dehumidifiers are energy-efficient, with many models featuring an automatic shut-off when the desired humidity level is reached to conserve energy. However, the cost of these energy-efficient models can vary. The 20L Premium Dehumidifier costs as little as 10 p/hour to run.
A noise level of ≤36 dBA would be very quiet and subtle, often going unnoticed in normal environments. To put this into perspective, it’s comparable to the sound of a quiet whisper or soft breathing. This model is out quietest 20L model.
Compressor dehumidifiers are best for warm, more humid spaces; they use a cooling mechanism to condense moisture, which is less effective in cold rooms because the air is already cool, making it harder to extract moisture.
Peltier dehumidifiers are quiet and compact, ideal for small, moderately humid areas such as bathrooms or closets.
- Proper Placement: Position the dehumidifier approximately 50cm from where the laundry is hanging, with enough space around it for air circulation.
- Use a Drying Rack: Hang your clothes on a drying rack instead of laying them flat. This increases the surface area exposed to air, enhancing the drying effect.
- Close the Doors and Windows: Ensure the room is closed to prevent additional moisture from entering, allowing the dehumidifier to work more efficiently.
- Optimise Settings: Set the dehumidifier to laundry mode, which uses a higher fan speed and maximum dehumidification to speed up the drying process.
- Regular Maintenance: Clean the filter regularly to maintain airflow efficiency and empty the water tank as needed or set up continuous drainage if your model supports it.
